Crane Rail Surveys
Our vast experience in the crane rail industry enables us to draw on a wealth of knowledge regarding rail types/origins, clips, resilient pads as well as supporting soleplates, ground fixings and plate grouts.
Rapid Rail work with you to develop a schedule of on-going preventative crane rail maintenance or to assist you in identifying and resolving specific problems.
Instrument Surveys
We specialise in carrying out comprehensive instrument surveys of industrial rail systems, including Crane Rails (long-travel and cross-travel), Stacker-Crane Guide Rails, Trolley Rails or any concrete or steel mounted system.
Results include:
- Horizontal Alignment
- Vertical Alignment
- Span (Guage)
- Evaluation against known standards eg. BS466:1984 - Appendix F - to identify areas that may be causing problems and require attention
Excessive deviations in rail alignment can result in accelerated wear to both rail and wheel, drive-system problems and, in extreme cases, derailment. It is therefore important to identify and rectify the root causes of maintenance problems such as frequent wheel changes to significantly reduce costs and unplanned down-time.
To compliment instrument surveys we also provide visual inspection services for the following…
- Rail - measuring vertical and horizontal head-wear
- Rail Joints - visual checks for cracked/dipped welded joints or damaged rail ends
- Fixings - checks for loose, damaged or missing clips
- Resilient Pad - noting areas where pad has deteriorated or is protruding out from under the rail
- Soleplates, grout etc - checking the integrity of the rail supports on ground tracks - e.g. broken or damaged soleplate grout, loose holding-down bolts etc.
